Happy New Year!
Updated: Jan 28, 2020
Happy New Year All! I am excited to begin a new calendar year as Grand Knight of Council 551. And, I'm equally excited for the events, activities, and charitable works our Council has planned and is planning for the coming year!
Tipping off the upcoming events is our annual St. Brigid's Dance on Saturday, February 1st featuring local favorite, Full Kilt. Tickets are only $25 per person and include all your food and beverages. Always a great time!
Coming in early May, we host our first of two annual Nite at the Races fundraiser. One of our main fundraisers, this event features horse racing, great food, and all beverages for only $50 per couple. In addition to a great night with friends and family, attendees can win cash! Stay tuned for the official date announcement.
On June 20th, we host our annual Joseph D. Tomlinson Memorial Tournament. Coming into our 5th year under the memorial tournament, honoring our departed Brother Knight, Joe Tomlinson, we've raised and distributed over $21,000 in scholarships to students attending Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School and Saint Francis University - both schools of which Joe was a valued Alumnus. Look for more information and to register at www.josephdtomlinsonmemorialgolf.com.
We've welcomed in six new members in the last six months and have several more slated to take the our 1st Degree in the coming months. Keep those referrals coming. Remember, the next 1st Degree at Council 551 will be on Thursday, May 7th at 7pm just before our regular monthly meeting. However, you will have several opportunities to take a degree between now and then at Bellwood, Hollidaysburg, and Tyrone Councils each of the next three months. If you know if anyone interested, please get them an application for us to read in at our next meeting, or they can join online at www.kofc.org/joinus and be contacted by me to scheduled their degree ceremony.
Our council continues to provide thousands of dollars in donations and hundreds of hours of volunteer and service work each year. This is made possible through the dedicated members and their families. We have a great group - consider joining us to help us make an impact in our community.
As always, I thank you all! Continue to do good work!
